Tara Lipinski says she is still unsure whether she wants her 3-year-old daughter, Georgie, to pursue figure skating competitively. The Olympic champion told E! News that watching Georgie take to the ice with her husband, Todd Kapostasy, has been heartwarming, but she does not want her daughter to feel expected to follow her career path.
“I never really want her to ever feel pressure to ever follow in my footsteps,” Lipinski said. She added that she had not expected Georgie to skate, and is uncertain whether she wants her to continue. “The problem is she likes it,” Lipinski joked.
For now, Lipinski plans to focus on keeping the experience enjoyable. She said sports can help build confidence and offer skills that children can use later in life. If Georgie continues to love skating, Lipinski said, she will support her for as long as she wants.
Georgie enjoys the sparkly outfits and sequins, as well as skating to “Pink Pony Club,” Lipinski said. Her priority is for her daughter to experience the positive side of being on the ice and have fun, rather than the seriousness that can come with competitive sport.
Lipinski also spoke about holiday preparations and her role hosting HGTV’s “Big Bargain Holiday Showdown.” She said the show’s contestants gave her ideas for creating festive decorations on a budget, and praised their creative projects. The series airs on HGTV on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET, starting Nov. 3.
