Suki Waterhouse has reflected on her relationship with Bradley Cooper, saying the experience helped her understand the challenges of living through a romance in the public eye.
Waterhouse dated Cooper from 2013 to 2015, when she was in her early 20s and he was in his late 30s. In an interview with The Times published Oct. 31, she discussed that period without naming Cooper directly, describing it as her first high-profile relationship and acknowledging that she entered it without fully considering the consequences of public attention.
“When you’re younger, you go into everything so blindly,” Waterhouse said, adding that people may not understand the repercussions of relationships that take place in the public eye.
More than a decade later, Waterhouse has built a family life with Robert Pattinson. The couple welcomed a daughter in 2024, and Waterhouse said she has learned that it is possible to maintain both a private and a public life. She added that she now knows how to keep those two sides separate—something she did not know how to do during her relationship with Cooper.
Waterhouse and Pattinson began dating in 2018. Reflecting on that relationship, she said she was surprised by how happy she felt and by the possibility of building something lasting. She noted that her previous relationships had lasted no more than two years and that those breakups had ended badly.
Despite her comments about privacy, Waterhouse has generally avoided discussing her romantic relationships in detail. In a 2014 interview with Elle U.K., she said she preferred not to talk about her boyfriend because she might not be able to stop once she started.
Waterhouse and Cooper made their red-carpet debut at the 2015 Oscars, only weeks before their split was confirmed. At the time, a source told E! News that they remained friends but wanted different things, with Cooper reportedly interested in starting a family while Waterhouse wanted to focus on her acting career.
