Nicolas Cage said he is staying in hotels after a sinkhole damaged his Malibu home. “I’m currently a little bit homeless,” he told a Los Angeles Comic Con panel on Saturday, October 31, according to E! News, adding that “something happened” to the house.

The situation has also changed Cage’s Halloween plans with his 4-year-old daughter, August. He said he planned to take her trick-or-treating in Santa Monica, then watch The Shining after putting her to bed.

Cage bought the beachfront Malibu home for $10.5 million in 2024. In September, part of his driveway and a nearby section of road collapsed into a sinkhole. Images published by TMZ at the time showed debris in the hole and part of the driveway overhanging its edge.

That month, Malibu declared an emergency over the sinkhole. The city’s proclamation said seven homes had been red-tagged because of hazardous conditions, with another 24 facing red tags because residents had lost safe vehicle access. It also described severely restricted access for emergency crews, as the remaining roadway was too narrow for large response vehicles.
