Nicolas Cage says he is temporarily without a home after severe coastal erosion and heavy rain damaged his beachfront property in Malibu. Speaking at Los Angeles Comic Con on October 31, the actor said the house is not safe to live in and that he is currently staying in hotels.

“I’m currently a little bit homeless,” Cage said, explaining that hotel living meant he would not have the usual trick-or-treaters he hoped to enjoy on Halloween.

The property was reportedly damaged in September when a sinkhole opened near the house. Photos showed a large hole where the driveway had been. The collapse also took in the enclosed garage, while asphalt and concrete fell into the hole, along with a nearby portable toilet and parts of a privacy fence. Seven houses on the street were marked unsafe, and neighbors were evacuated.

Cage said he planned to take his four-year-old daughter, August, trick-or-treating in Santa Monica and watch the horror film “The Shining” after putting her to bed.

According to Page Six, Cage filed three permits within days of the incident as he worked to protect the property. One emergency permit allows him to place sandbags against the beach and the exterior of the home to guard against waves and further erosion.
