Nicolas Cage says he is temporarily living in hotels after a sinkhole caused major damage to his Malibu home. Speaking at a Los Angeles Comic Con panel on Oct. 31, the actor described his situation as being “a little bit homeless.”
The sinkhole opened in September and affected several homes in the area. It reportedly collapsed Cage’s deck, destroyed his driveway and caused a temporary gas leak nearby. Local officials declared an emergency and ordered residents of more than 30 homes to evacuate.
Cage said the disruption changed his Halloween plans with his four-year-old daughter, August, whom he shares with his wife, Riko Shibata. He planned to take her trick-or-treating in Santa Monica, then watch Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” after putting her to bed.
The actor bought the 4,000-square-foot property in 2024. The damage comes years after financial difficulties led him to sell several homes, including a castle in Germany.
