The Detroit Lions said linebacker Jack Campbell is resting and recovering at a local hospital after being injured in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. The team said preliminary indications are positive but declined to provide further details, citing respect for Campbell and his family.

Head coach Dan Campbell addressed the injury at a press conference Monday, saying he could not discuss the player’s health. He later said the team knows what is happening and that he had updated the captains. The Lions had previously said Jack Campbell was being evaluated for a neck injury.

Campbell was hurt during a tackle involving Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. He was immobilized on a backboard and taken off the field by cart. Dan Campbell said the focus is now on his recovery and that Campbell’s family is in good spirits. The coach said he had spoken with Campbell’s parents and wife, Megan, and that some teammates visited him at the hospital while doctors conducted tests.

Dan Campbell praised the linebacker’s character and leadership, saying his absence would be felt throughout the organization. Lions quarterback Jared Goff called the incident frightening and said the team was praying for Campbell. Hockenson also sent his support to Campbell, his family and the Lions locker room.
