Cory Wharton missed the New York City Marathon after his six-year-old daughter Mila, whom he shares with ex-partner Taylor Selfridge, broke her arm and underwent surgery. Wharton shared the news on Instagram on November 3, explaining that he could not travel to New York for the race while Mila was in hospital.
The reality TV star said he had been training for and looking forward to the marathon for months. He also apologized to those who had hoped to see him run, while noting that his fundraising effort for The Children’s Heart Foundation had brought in $12,000 for congenital heart defect research.
Wharton had previously said his daughter Maya, who has a rare congenital heart defect, inspired him to take on the race. He told E! News that Maya was continuing to recover, saying she was smiling and beginning to talk more.
He also said the health challenges affecting his family had left him mentally, emotionally and physically tired, but that he still needed to be there for those who depend on him. Missing the race meant he could spend Halloween with his children, including nine-year-old Ryder, whom he shares with ex Cheyenne Floyd.
