Suki Waterhouse has made a rare reference to her past relationship with Bradley Cooper, describing how relationships lasting more than two years could once end in what she called a “disaster.”
Speaking to The Sunday Times, the 34-year-old model and musician did not identify Cooper by name. She said she was surprised by how happy she is with her current partner, Robert Pattinson, because before him she had never dated someone for longer than two years.
“If it was two years, it would have been a disaster at the end,” Waterhouse said, reflecting on how she approached relationships when she was younger. She added that she had entered situations “blindly” and had not understood the potential consequences of being involved in relationships that were publicly scrutinized.
Waterhouse and Cooper dated from 2013 to 2015. Their relationship attracted attention in part because of their 17-year age difference: she was 21 and he was 38 at the time.
Waterhouse also recalled isolating herself at home after a painful breakup, apparently referring to her split from Cooper, and reaching a point where she wanted to leave what she described as a “stifling” modeling career. She said she felt “quite depressed” during that period but channeled those emotions into songwriting.
Reflecting on what she learned from her previous relationships, Waterhouse said she now understands that it is possible to maintain both a private and a public life.
She last addressed her separation from Cooper in a 2024 British Vogue interview, describing the experience as isolating because the circumstances were difficult and she could not explain her side of the story publicly. Cooper’s representative did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Waterhouse spoke warmly about her relationship with Pattinson, calling their bond “beautiful.” She noted that maintaining a relationship can be difficult when both partners have careers that require frequent travel and living in different places.
