Cher’s representative has responded to Michael Douglas’s comment that Glenn Close should have won the 1988 Academy Award for Best Actress instead of Cher, who received the honor for Moonstruck.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the representative said Cher “adores Michael Douglas” and offered no further comment.

Douglas made the remark while appearing with Close on The Graham Norton Show. He said he thought Close should have won for Fatal Attraction, which earned her a Best Actress nomination. When host Graham Norton noted that Cher won instead, Douglas replied, “I know, that’s what we all said!” Close responded, “Michael, be kind,” prompting laughter from the audience.

At the 1988 Oscars, Douglas won Best Actor for Wall Street. Fatal Attraction received six nominations, including Close’s, but did not win any awards.
