Tanner Courtad has clarified that his connection with Julianne Hough was brief, saying the pair went on one date and did not begin a serious relationship. The Bachelor in Paradise alum shared the details on the Nov. 3 episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, nearly two years after they were photographed together in Los Angeles.

Courtad said he was attending Dancing With the Stars to support his friend Joey Graziadei, the show’s season 33 winner. While Courtad was seated in the front row, dancer Ezra Sosa approached him and asked whether he wanted Hough’s number, saying the host thought he was cute. Courtad initially wondered if the offer was a prank, so he checked with fellow Bachelorette alum Justin Glaze.

After the episode, Courtad met Hough in the parking lot. He said they spoke briefly and decided to go on a date. They took Hough’s dog to a park and got sushi; paparazzi photographed them while they were picking up the food.

Courtad described the romance as “very short-lived” and said it was “never anything more than just a singular date.” He added, jokingly, that he had “blew it.”
