Carmen Efferson has filed a court response denying Stevie Wonder’s claims in his effort to evict her from a Los Angeles home. She is asking the judge not to order her to leave and says Wonder, as her landlord, should address problems with the property.
Efferson alleges the house has damp or leaking ceilings and walls, holes in the walls, floors and carpet, falling plaster, peeling paint, and defective or leaking plumbing. She wants the issues repaired as soon as possible.
Wonder’s lawsuit claims Efferson has lived in the home since July 1988 under a verbal arrangement with no written lease and no monthly rent. He says that arrangement has ended. He also alleges that people he sent to conduct an insurance inspection were not allowed inside.
A source close to Efferson said she was blindsided by the lawsuit. Efferson has also reportedly told friends that Wonder promised her the home.
