Just under two months following its arrival in theaters, the film "Primetime" is now available to buy and rent on-demand across various platforms, including Prime Video. The movie's digital release date is set for November 3, marking its transition from cinemas to home viewing.
Based on a true story, the thriller dramatizes the events surrounding the television show "To Catch a Predator." Robert Pattinson stars as host Chris Hansen, portraying his attempt to make television history before a high-stakes sting operation goes awry. The narrative explores how the show turned criminal justice into a spectacle. Supporting the lead are Merritt Wever as producer Andie Bender and Skylar Gisondo as "Decoy" Dan Plum. Singer Phoebe Bridgers makes her film debut in the role of another one of the show's go-to decoys.
The film is directed by Lance Oppenheim, known for his work on "You Can See Everything," from a script by Ajon Singh. The screenplay is based on Luke Dittrich's 2007 Esquire article titled "Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die." In a review for The Post, critic Johnny Oleksinski awarded the movie three out of four stars, noting that while Pattinson delivers an explosive performance as Hansen descends into madness, the film offers more of a good time than a profound one.
For viewers choosing the rental option, access is granted for 48 hours once playback begins, with a 30-day window to start watching. The full cast also includes Matthew Maher as online vigilante Xavier Von Erck, Anna Faris as Hansen's wife Mary Joan, Bokeem Woodbine as Rockwall County police chief Cortland Gunn, and Alex Winter as assistant district attorney Bill Conradt.
