Melissa Rycroft has spoken publicly about her recent arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, describing the incident as a low point and saying she feels “deeply ashamed and embarrassed.” In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the former “Bachelor” contestant said she has been struggling with her mental health and will receive professional care.
Rycroft wrote that she had tried to manage her difficulties on her own but had reached a point where she could no longer do so. She said she wants to feel like herself again for her family, adding that they deserve the best version of her and that she is working toward that.
She also asked the public to show compassion and respect her family’s privacy while she focuses on getting help.
Police say Rycroft was arrested in Texas over the weekend after allegedly hitting an ambulance and leaving the scene. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with an invalid license under circumstances involving a prior conviction or suspension without financial responsibility, and causing less than $200 in vehicle damage in a collision. The report says the arrest comes months after she was sentenced in connection with a DWI case from the previous year.
