Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have been together since 2007, became engaged in 2009 and married in 2013. They have two daughters, Lincoln, born in March 2013, and Delta, born in December 2014. Their relationship has often attracted public attention, including through Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert, and Bell’s acting work.
Some of their most widely discussed remarks have concerned parenting. In 2021, the couple said on The View that they had stopped bathing their daughters every night, sometimes waiting until they noticed an odor. Bell said the girls could go five or six days without a wash before their parents considered it time for a bath or shower.
That year, Shepard also explained on Armchair Expert how he and Bell discussed sex and consent with their daughters. He described phrasing the conversation to emphasize that a woman decides whether to have sex, rather than presenting it as something a man does to her.
Bell drew attention in September 2024 when she described letting the girls explore Copenhagen during a family trip. The family stayed at a hotel connected to Tivoli Gardens, and Bell said the children used their bracelets to enter the park and spent hours on their own. She described the experience as “heaven” for her and Shepard, who stayed behind for coffee and a card game.
Shepard has also shared posts featuring Bell that attracted notice. In 2021, he posted a since-deleted photo of her doing naked yoga for Mother’s Day, praising her as a mother and partner. After Bell received a 2025 Emmy nomination, he shared a blurred photo of her in a suggestive pose and joked that it might have been part of her preparation for the performance.
A post marking the couple’s 12th wedding anniversary in October 2025 prompted criticism. Bell wrote that Shepard had once told her, “I would never kill you,” then added a remark about men killing their wives. Some Instagram users objected to the joke because it was shared during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The National Network to End Domestic Violence told Page Six that jokes trivializing domestic violence could minimize the fear and trauma experienced by victims and survivors.
A video from 2012 also resurfaced after the anniversary post. In it, Bell recalled criticizing the sound of a car Shepard had worked on. Shepard joked, “And then I hit her several times,” and Bell followed with a sarcastic response about being beaten up and staying quiet.
More recently, Bell described Shepard’s way of flirting with her during an October 2026 Armchair Expert episode. She said he sometimes compliments a server’s appearance, such as their eyelashes or eyes, and that she takes the gesture as a sign of his kindness. Bell said his compliments had never felt inappropriate to her, but the account prompted fans to question whether the behavior was respectful within a relationship.
In the same episode, Bell compared her marriage to her on-screen romance with Adam Brody, saying she and Shepard felt like opposites but still wanted to make their relationship work.
