Adam Driver said his life in Hollywood has shaped the way he and wife Joanne Tucker approach parenting their two children.

In an interview with E! News alongside his Paper Tiger co-star Scarlett Johansson, the Oscar nominee acknowledged that their son and daughter have more privilege than he and Tucker had growing up. Driver said he does not want to focus on making them feel guilty about that, but wants them to understand where their advantages come from.

“I try to make sure that he understands where everything comes from and that he has to work for it to get it,” Driver said of his son, adding jokingly, “and I'm not giving him s--t.”

The actor also described manners as a central value in their household. He said he wants his son to understand the importance of respecting everyone, regardless of who they are. Their 3-year-old daughter is still learning, while their son is already “very good” with his manners, according to Driver.

Driver and Johansson discussed parenting while promoting Paper Tiger, a film about two brothers, played by Driver and Miles Teller, who pursue potentially lucrative business opportunities and become entangled with the Russian mafia.

The movie reunites Driver and Johansson, who previously played a married couple in 2019’s Marriage Story. Johansson said she enjoyed working with Driver again and watching him develop his performance.

Paper Tiger is scheduled to open in select theaters Nov. 13 before expanding to theaters nationwide Nov. 20.
