Dylan Mortensen, a survivor of the 2022 Idaho college murders, says she has faced years of threats, harassment and conspiracy theories about her involvement in the killings. In a court filing, she describes how the attention has changed her daily life, including how she interacts with others, where she feels safe and what personal information she is willing to share.

Mortensen encountered Bryan Kohberger as he left the off-campus University of Idaho home in November 2022. She faced criticism for not immediately calling 911 afterward. Kaylee Goncalves’ father has said publicly that an earlier call would not have saved the four students.

Mortensen is asking a judge to keep her face obscured in previously sealed case records scheduled for release, saying that lifting the protections could put her safety and privacy at risk.

Kohberger pleaded guilty to murdering Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin and Goncalves and received four consecutive life sentences in July 2025. He has since filed a petition seeking to withdraw his guilty pleas and obtain a trial, which could again place Mortensen in the spotlight as a key witness.
