Aria Marinelli, one of Theranos’ early employees and a former assistant to Elizabeth Holmes, says Holmes made demanding requests of staff well before the company’s wrongdoing became widely known. In an essay for Jane Pratt’s newsletter, Another Jane Pratt Thing, Marinelli describes being asked to handle an urgent travel issue during a holiday.
Holmes, who was travelling home from Asia, had emailed Marinelli for help. The assistant says she went online, worried Holmes might be stranded overseas, only to find that the problem was her seat: she was in the third row of first class and wanted seat 1A.
Marinelli says she rearranged the trip at a substantial cost to the fledgling company. Her account appears in a column that also includes items on entertainment, society and culture.
