Bryan Seaver, Dolly Parton’s nephew, is asking a judge to dismiss the case brought by the entity managing his late aunt’s estate and dissolve the temporary restraining order against him, according to newly filed legal documents.

Seaver says he did not threaten Danny Nozell or anyone else involved with Parton’s estate or business. He argues that the controversial text messages he sent were intended as jokes and that Nozell’s replies show he understood them that way. Seaver also denies creating a “culture of fear” or engaging in “outrageous or oppressive conduct.”

He wants the case dismissed with prejudice, which would prevent it from being filed again, and is asking the estate to cover his expenses in defending against the lawsuit.

The dispute followed Seaver’s dismissal from his security position in September, after the messages to Nozell. The company obtained a restraining order shortly afterward. It is also seeking body-camera footage from a police interaction with Seaver after Parton died.
