Whoopi Goldberg has remembered Patrick Stewart as an “irreplaceable” friend and a remarkable actor following his death on Oct. 28, after a brief battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. Stewart was 86.
Speaking on The View on Nov. 2, Goldberg said she and Stewart had known each other since the 1980s, when they starred together in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Goldberg played Guinan opposite Stewart’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard. “We went way back, and I adored him,” she said.
Goldberg also praised Stewart’s range, recalling his work in drama, science fiction, comedy and Shakespeare. Images from his career, including his role as Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men, were shown during the tribute.
The pair worked together again in 2022, when Stewart invited Goldberg to reprise Guinan on Star Trek: Picard after visiting The View. Goldberg described the experience as an “amazing” memory and said Star Trek remained one of the great events of her life.
“I’ll miss him dearly,” she said. Goldberg had also shared a photo of their Star Trek characters as action figures, writing, “See you on the next holodeck.”
