A judge in the United Kingdom has rejected an anonymous public figure’s bid to prevent Independent Television News from publishing his name in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct. The judge dismissed the claim and refused the requested injunction, according to a report cited by The Sun.
The identity has not been disclosed yet. The ruling may be appealed, and the possibility of an appeal has delayed any potential publication of the name.
The man is accused of engaging in “inappropriate sexual activities with a large number of girls and young women.” He has denied the allegations. His lawyers had argued that disclosure would put him at serious risk, saying he was “highly likely” to take his own life and feared a “trial by media.” They also said he had attempted suicide twice, been hospitalized twice, been involuntarily detained and seen more than 10 doctors over the matter.
