Trisha Paytas has shared memories of her relationship with the late Aaron Carter, describing the singer as kind, goofy and a close friend. She spoke about their connection during a November 3 appearance on the “We Need to Talk” podcast hosted by Paul Brunson.

Paytas said she first messaged Carter after breaking up with Sean van der Wilt, who had previously toured in China with Carter. She recalled that she and Carter had met in 2017 and said she initially wanted to make her former partner jealous. Paytas and Carter dated that year and later briefly reconciled, having kept in touch online.

Though the two were sometimes intimate, Paytas said their relationship was largely a friendship. They would check in through direct messages and on Twitter, spend time at home and watch movies together. She recalled Carter joking around while they watched “The Revenant.”

Paytas also said she tried more potent drugs while dating Carter. She described the people in her life who struggled with addiction as genuine and kind, while emphasizing that addiction is an illness. Her experiences around Carter and others, she said, became a wake-up call to stop using drugs.

Carter died in November 2022 at age 34. Paytas said she felt his addiction had overshadowed his talent, adding that she considered him very talented. She is now married to Moses Hacmon, with whom she has three children.
