The Chicks brought an election-night message to their concert at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre on Tuesday, November 3. Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer welcomed the crowd as fans displayed signs reading “F*** Trump,” drawing cheers from the audience.
“Welcome to our blunami night. So glad we could enjoy this night together,” Maines said. She then celebrated projected Democratic wins, saying Texas, the Senate and the House were blue and that the evening would have felt very different otherwise.
The term “blunami” referred to projections that Democrats would take control of both chambers of Congress following the midterm elections. The concert was part of The Chicks’ Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour. The group had been scheduled to play its final show that night, while its second-to-last concert was rescheduled for Wednesday, November 4.
The set included “Not Ready to Make Nice,” the Grammy-winning first single from the group’s 2006 album Taking the Long Way. The album won five Grammys in 2007, including Album of the Year and Best Country Album. The song received awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
