Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles became widely known for playing monster-hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester on Supernatural, which ran on The CW from 2005 to 2020. After appearing in more than 300 episodes, both actors have continued building television careers through new series, guest appearances and projects connected to their earlier work.
Padalecki said he did not expect to fully say goodbye to his Supernatural character, describing the long-running production as a family. Ackles has expressed a similar view of the franchise's lasting potential. He later helped expand its universe through The Winchesters, a spinoff focused on the characters' parents during the 1970s. The series ran from 2022 to 2023, with Ackles narrating as Dean and serving as an executive producer alongside his wife, Danneel Ackles.
Following Supernatural, Padalecki stayed at The CW as the lead of Walker, Texas Ranger reboot Walker, which ran from 2020 to 2024. He also worked as an executive producer. After Walker inspired the prequel Walker: Independence, Padalecki made an unnamed cameo in one episode. Ackles joined Walker as a director and appeared as Miles Vyas.
Padalecki later appeared as Camden Casey in a three-episode third-season arc of CBS drama Fire Country. The storyline was intended to establish a possible spinoff, Fire Country: Surfside, centered on Casey as a California firefighter dealing with the aftermath of his brother's death in the field.
Ackles took on a very different role as Soldier Boy in The Boys. That performance led to further work within the franchise, including the prequel Vought Rising and a guest appearance in the Gen V spinoff. Padalecki is also set to appear alongside Misha Collins in the fifth and final season of The Boys, reuniting him with Ackles and series creator Eric Kripke.
Padalecki has also reunited with Walker showrunner Anna Fricke for an untitled CBS medical drama. The project follows a determined country doctor who practices an unconventional form of improvisational medicine. It is being developed under Padalecki's first-look deal, and CBS opened a writers' room for the series in late 2025.
Ackles' other television credits include Big Sky, where a guest appearance in the second season led to a regular role as Beau Arlen alongside Reba McEntire. He also plays Russell, Justin Hartley's on-screen brother, on Tracker, and stars in Prime Video's Countdown as Mark, a Los Angeles police officer recruited into a secret multi-agency task force investigating a suspicious murder committed in broad daylight.
The former Supernatural co-stars also reunited remotely in an April 2026 episode of The Rookie, appearing together via Zoom.
