Suki Waterhouse has spoken about the personal impact of a past relationship with Bradley Cooper, describing the experience of having a difficult story unfold publicly while she was struggling to explain herself.

In an interview with The Sunday Times published November 1, Waterhouse reflected on her nearly decade-long relationship with fiancé Robert Pattinson. She said their lasting connection had surprised her, noting that before Pattinson, her relationships had lasted no longer than two years and tended to end badly.

Waterhouse did not name Cooper in the interview. The two dated from 2013 to 2015. She said that when a relationship becomes public and its circumstances are difficult, being unable to explain her perspective can feel isolating and disorienting. She added that it had taken her about a decade to understand herself and make room for change in her life.

She also reflected that the love she experienced in her twenties had felt like “only ever a fetishization,” and said she had noticed being treated with more respect in her thirties. Waterhouse said she had no regrets about the way her life unfolded, describing those experiences as material that ultimately led her to what she called a pure love.

The interview also touched on wedding planning with Pattinson.
