CBS confirmed on November 2 that Shantel VanSanten will return to ‘FBI’ as Special Agent Nina Chase. In the upcoming episode, Nina reunites with her husband, Stuart Scola (John Boyd), to help the team pursue a Most Wanted suspect in the murder of an online influencer.
Nina’s return comes as she considers a new job in San Diego, where she would lead her own task force. Scola tells Maggie (Missy Peregrym) and OA (Zeeko Zaki) that the position would require Nina to move to California. He is unsure whether their family, which includes their child, could manage the upheaval.
Scola initially tells Nina not to accept the promotion, but later leaves her a voicemail encouraging her to take it and saying they will work things out. The decision could mean a major change for Scola, though the episode does not confirm that he will leave the show.
VanSanten joined ‘FBI’ in 2022 as a series regular for one season before moving to the spinoff ‘FBI: Most Wanted.’ She has returned to the original series for key moments in Nina and Scola’s relationship, including their engagement and wedding. VanSanten has previously said she was open to future appearances.
