Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy was hospitalized after suffering a stroke during his son’s hockey game on Saturday, October 31. Murphy, 53, reportedly began experiencing numbness in his arm while attending the game.

His chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, said the senator was taken to a local hospital, where doctors determined that he had experienced a stroke. He was then transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment, according to a statement provided to NPR.

Herwitt added that Murphy is expected to make a full recovery.

Murphy has served as Connecticut’s junior U.S. senator since 2013, following previous service in the state legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives. He won a third Senate term in 2024 and is not up for re-election in the 2026 midterms. His current term is scheduled to end on January 3, 2031.
