Poh Ling Yeow, the 52-year-old cohost of Junior MasterChef Australia, has come to the defense of Meghan Markle after the announcement of the Duchess's new role sparked significant backlash. Speaking to Pedestrian TV on Wednesday, October 28, Yeow described witnessing the negative reaction as a 'really crazy experience,' yet she expressed deep admiration for Markle's strength in handling the situation.
Yeow attributed the controversy surrounding Markle's career moves to the insatiable nature of public rumors, noting that such speculation is simply 'the nature of the beast.' The Australian television host revealed that she also faced some criticism by association with the project but dismissed the negativity, stating that it was fine. Earlier this week, Network 10 confirmed that Markle would join the spinoff series following her appearance as a special guest on MasterChef Australia last year.
Filming for the new season is scheduled to take place over two weeks in May 2027, with the episodes set to air later that same year. In a statement released on Tuesday, October 27, Markle expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the franchise, citing an incredible experience with the team last April. She highlighted her love for cooking with her own children and her excitement to see what the young contestants would create in the kitchen.
Yeow, who currently serves as a judge on MasterChef Australia and was the runner-up in the show's inaugural 2009 season, shared her excitement about reuniting with Markle. She recalled having a lovely time filming with the former Suits actress earlier this year and looked forward to meeting the 'pint-sized culinary adventurers.' Yeow noted that she expects plenty of delicious surprises and some mischief from the young talent. Additionally, she expressed thrill at the return of Junior MasterChef to screens, acknowledging that fans have frequently asked about the show's revival.
This marks another television venture for Markle, who previously hosted the Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan. That show ran for two seasons after its debut in 2025.
