Patrick Schwarzenegger and Isabela Merced are reportedly set to play John and Lorena Bobbitt in the second season of Hulu’s crime anthology series Good American Family, according to Deadline. Merced will portray Lorena, while Schwarzenegger will play her former husband, John.
Hulu announced in August that the series would return with a season based on the Bobbitts’ case. The couple drew international attention after an incident in June 1993, when Lorena cut off John’s penis with a kitchen knife while he was sleeping. It was later recovered and surgically reattached.
Lorena subsequently accused John of sexual assault and abuse during their marriage. He was acquitted of marital sexual assault in November 1993, and Lorena was found not guilty by reason of temporary insanity in January 1994. Hulu has said the new season will examine how the couple’s story became a media spectacle.
Ellen Pompeo, who starred in the first season, is returning as an executive producer but is not expected to appear as an actor. Season 1 focused on Natalia Grace and her adoptive parents, Kristine and Michael Barnett. The anthology plans to cover a different real-life case each season. Hulu has not announced a premiere date for Season 2.
