Milo Ventimiglia has looked back on his time filming Gilmore Girls, describing the experience of making the show as more memorable to him than revisiting individual episodes. The actor played Jess Mariano, Rory Gilmore’s boyfriend, and dated his co-star Alexis Bledel from 2002 to 2006.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Ventimiglia said he thinks about the days on set, including spending time with Bledel and fellow cast member Jared Padalecki. He also recalled filming on the Warner Bros. backlot with Bledel and asking a prop crew member to put a sandbag in a large bag so it would look and feel heavy.

Ventimiglia joined the series in its second season and appeared as Jess throughout the third season, later returning for recurring appearances until the 2007 finale. He said those behind-the-scenes memories are what come to mind, rather than particular episodes.

The actor also said he is expected to take part in an upcoming Gilmore Girls documentary in production for HBO Max, made by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai Gilmore, is also set to appear. Ventimiglia said he has not recorded his contribution and does not expect to watch episodes beforehand to refresh his memory.

He added that fans still approach him to ask about specific lines from the show, though he is often surprised by how long ago it was made.
