Milo Ventimiglia will participate in an upcoming HBO Max documentary about Gilmore Girls, adding the actor who played Jess Mariano to the project’s confirmed contributors.
The documentary will be told from the perspective of series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino. According to the project’s description, it will examine how the show exceeded expectations and became a cross-generational phenomenon through the combined work of its creators, cast, crew and collaborators. It will also feature previously unseen outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage and script pages.
Ventimiglia confirmed his participation to Us Weekly, although he said he has not yet recorded his contribution. He expressed admiration for Sherman-Palladino and Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai Gilmore, while noting that he does not yet know what they will discuss. Ventimiglia also reflected on how much time has passed since he worked on the series, saying it was 26 years ago.
Before Ventimiglia’s participation was confirmed, Liza Weil, Danny Strong and Lauren Graham had already been announced as participants. Weil played Paris Geller, while Strong portrayed Doyle McMaster.
The report also notes that another Gilmore Girls documentary is in development, with several of the show’s stars involved, although some key cast members are not participating.
