Michael Mann has been photographed for the first time since accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a Los Angeles gun range on October 31. The 83-year-old filmmaker was seen leaving what appeared to be an orthopedic surgeon’s office on Tuesday, using crutches. His left foot appeared to be in a cast, and he wore a black orthopedic boot.
Mann was hospitalized after the incident at The Range LA, where he was taking part in firearm training. According to accounts cited by Page Six and TMZ, the gun went off as he attempted to holster it, striking him in the leg. Paramedics took him to a hospital by ambulance.
The following day, Mann’s representatives described the injury as “superficial” and said he was expected to be released from the hospital soon. A source also told Page Six that Mann has practiced target shooting for decades.
Mann is best known for directing the crime drama “Heat” and the biographical film “The Insider.” He is in pre-production on “Heat 2.”
