Former Bachelor Matt James paused during the TCS New York City Marathon on November 1 to help a couple reveal their baby’s sex. The couple held a sign reading “Do Our Gender Reveal!” beside three black balloons marked with question marks.
In a video shared on Instagram, James used a pin provided by the couple to pop the balloons. Pink confetti burst out, revealing that they are expecting a girl. “Ohhh, it’s a girl!” he shouted, jumping with excitement before congratulating the couple and returning to the race. He later crossed the finish line.
The clip drew enthusiastic reactions online. Fellow Bachelor Nation star Tyler Cameron called the moment “amazing,” while commenters praised James for stopping to take part in the celebration.
James starred in season 25 of The Bachelor, becoming the show’s first Black lead. He has also taken part in marathon-related broadcasting: in an Instagram post last April, he said he would join the Boston Marathon broadcast team as a field correspondent while running the 26.2-mile race.
