Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell has shared an encouraging update three days after suffering a serious neck injury during a game against the Minnesota Vikings. He said he has full movement in his lower body and is continuing to make progress with movement in his upper body.
“I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time,” Campbell said in a statement shared on the Lions’ Instagram on Nov. 4. He added that he remains optimistic while recognizing that recovery will take continued work.
Campbell was injured in the fourth quarter of Detroit’s 19-15 win over Minnesota and was carried off the field on a stretcher. In his update, he said he is taking recovery one day at a time and drawing strength from his faith, family and the support of others.
The 26-year-old thanked fans for their support and expressed gratitude to the athletic trainers and medical personnel who treated him on the field. He also thanked his teammates, coaches and others in the Lions organization, describing the team as a family.
Campbell and his wife, Megan, have a four-month-old son, Cooper. He said he plans to face the challenge with the toughness and resilience associated with Detroit.
