Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was hospitalized after suffering a neck injury during the team’s Nov. 1 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell went down in the fourth quarter after making his third tackle of the game on Vikings player T.J. Hockenson. He was lying face down on the field and appeared unable to move as medical personnel evaluated him. The 26-year-old was eventually secured to a backboard and taken off the field while fans applauded.
Several Lions teammates and members of the coaching staff gathered around the cart as Campbell was transported for further evaluation. His wife, Megan Campbell, and their newborn son were reportedly brought to field level to accompany him in the ambulance.
After the game, the Lions said on X that Campbell was being transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury. The team later confirmed that he would remain hospitalized overnight for further evaluation and said it would provide additional updates when available.
Head coach Dan Campbell, who is not related to the linebacker, addressed the situation during a postgame press conference.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family,” he said, according to NBC Sports. “He’s being taken care of. We don’t have any new information. We’ll keep you updated as this goes, but we’re thinking about him.”
