A private Learjet 60 crashed in a residential area near Cresthaven, Florida, around 12:50 p.m. Sunday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The aircraft was traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it went down near the roadside.
Video recorded by a passing car showed the plane descending almost vertically before striking the ground. Footage from the aftermath showed a smoldering crater and a large fire at the crash site.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people aboard the aircraft died.
Palm Beach Fire & Rescue said Military Trail, between Cresthaven and 10th Avenue North, was closed to all traffic. The department described the response as an extended incident and urged people to avoid the area.
