King Charles III appeared frustrated after rain began falling during a celebration of Antigua and Barbuda’s 45th anniversary of independence at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Sunday, November 1. The King and Queen Camilla had arrived at the event when a sudden downpour left Charles standing on the field without an umbrella at first.
Camilla was given a clear umbrella and headed toward the seating area. Charles, whose tan suit was visibly wet, gestured toward aides before leaving the field with a black umbrella. Camilla watched from her seat, smiling and laughing. Charles later joked about the soaked suit: “I think I’m about to grow watercress on my suit.”
GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker said on Instagram that a large, dark cloud brought intense rain with little warning. He explained that Camilla was expected to return to her seat, while Charles remained outside to inspect troops. Walker said he did not know why it took so long for the King’s team to bring him an umbrella.
The appearance was part of Charles and Camilla’s Caribbean tour. Camilla arrived in Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday after Charles had visited the Bahamas and Guyana the previous week. The couple were scheduled to leave the country on Wednesday, November 4.
