Kaitlan Collins brought a Mariah Carey meme into CNN’s election night coverage while discussing the New Hampshire Senate race. She compared John Sununu’s campaign ads distancing him from Donald Trump to Carey’s 2003 interview in which she said she did not know Jennifer Lopez.
Sununu, a former New Hampshire senator seeking to regain his seat, faced Congressman Chris Pappas. Collins said the ads, which portrayed Sununu as not knowing Trump well, reminded her of Carey’s remark. Co-host Jake Tapper appeared not to recognize the reference, while Anderson Cooper said he hoped it would not be the last Mariah Carey mention of the night.
Dana Bash later supported Collins’ Mariah Carey reference in a post on X. Pappas went on to defeat Sununu, according to the report.
