Josh O’Connor has described the speculation linking him to the next James Bond role as “extraordinary,” while saying he could not comment further on the casting rumors.
The actor said he felt honored to be considered for the part, calling it a “pinch-me moment” to be mentioned in the same conversation as the iconic role. He added that he had “nothing to say beyond that.”
Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, praised another reported contender, Callum Turner. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Brosnan said he admired the actors on the rumored shortlist and described Turner, his co-star in the 2017 film “The Only Living Boy in New York,” as “so strong.”
Brosnan said he was now watching as an audience member and wished whoever takes on the role “the very best of life and strength and courage.”
The report says the search had narrowed to Turner and Jack Lowden, who were expected to screen-test last month. At least four screen-test offers had reportedly been made, with O’Connor among those expected to audition. The identity of a fourth contender has not been disclosed.
