Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff said Jack Campbell’s injury was “definitely scary” after Detroit’s game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, November 1. Goff said the incident was a reminder that Campbell is a husband and father, adding that the team was praying for him and hoping he would be all right.
Campbell appeared unable to move after tackling Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. He was taken from the field as players from both teams took a knee following the injury. The Lions initially said Campbell was being evaluated for a neck injury.
The team later announced that Campbell was resting in a local hospital and would remain there overnight for continued evaluation and monitoring. The Lions said they would provide further updates.
Head coach Dan Campbell said the linebacker was being taken care of and shared thoughts and prayers for him and his family. Despite the difficult moment, Detroit went on to defeat Minnesota 19-15.
During the Fox broadcast, Tom Brady said it was difficult for everyone involved but noted that Campbell was receiving medical care and that the team had to return to the game. Sideline commentator Erin Andrews also highlighted Campbell’s importance to the Lions, saying one of his teammates described it as “Jack Campbell’s defense.”
The Lions selected Campbell, an All-American at Iowa, in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He married his college sweetheart, Megan, in 2024, and the couple welcomed their first child, Cooper, in July. Megan joined him at field level after the injury and accompanied him in the ambulance.
