Janelle Brown said she learned that Kody Brown and his wife, Robyn, would not be returning to Sister Wives for season 21 through an email. In an interview with People published November 2, Janelle said the news caught her off guard, much like it did fans.

“I actually got an email that they weren’t coming back,” she recalled. Asked whether she kept the message, Janelle said she might have deleted it and added that she did not care.

Janelle said she has not spoken with Kody or Robyn since the family was together after selling their property, an event featured in season 20. She also said she does not know what is happening in their lives. Some of her children were surprised when she told them about the departure, though she noted that most do not have much of a relationship with their father.

Despite their distance, Janelle described the news as “the end of an era.” She said she hopes Kody and Robyn will be okay, while adding that she wishes them well. She also welcomed the opportunity for the show to focus on her story and those of former sister wives Christine Brown and Meri Brown, rather than conversations prompted by Kody’s comments.

Janelle and Kody separated in December 2022. They have six children together: Logan, Maddie, Hunter, Gabe, Savanah and Garrison, who died in March 2024 at age 25. Christine announced her split from Kody in November 2021, while Meri said in January 2023 that she and Kody were no longer married.

The network revealed that Kody and Robyn would not film season 21 in the trailer for the current season. Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
