Jack Lowden has addressed speculation that he is among the leading candidates to play the next James Bond, while stopping short of confirming or denying the reports.

The 36-year-old Slow Horses star is reportedly one of several young actors who have screen-tested for the role. Betting odds have also listed him as a favorite for the part.

When asked about the rumors by GQ Hype, Lowden initially reacted with, “Oh, Christ…” He then said the attention was flattering and added that he did not want to contribute to the surrounding speculation.

“On this… It’s all very flattering. It’s nice to be mentioned – for any role – and I’m just not really going to add to the noise,” Lowden said.

The actor also responded to comments from his Slow Horses co-star Gary Oldman, who earlier this year said a decision had already been made about the next Bond and expressed hope that Lowden would get the role.

Lowden described Oldman as “a sweetheart” and said it was particularly nice to hear those comments from him. However, he added that he generally does not pay attention to such speculation, noting that young male actors are often linked to Bond whenever they appear in a suit rather than playing an unconventional character.
