Mexican journalist and television host Inés Gómez Mont was reportedly arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Miami on Friday, according to the Sun. The 43-year-old was taken into custody over fraud allegations and remains in U.S. custody pending immigration proceedings and any formal extradition process, the outlet reported.

Gómez Mont and her husband, Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, are accused of using shell companies, sham contracts and false invoices to obtain money from Mexico’s Interior Ministry and launder the proceeds. The alleged scheme involved $160 million. Álvarez Puga has been described as the operation’s alleged mastermind.

The couple fled Mexico in September 2021 after warrants were issued in connection with the allegations. Álvarez Puga was detained by ICE in September 2025 over immigration irregularities, according to the Sun, but was later released. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Gómez Mont denied the accusations in an Instagram statement in September 2021, saying she had not stolen money or received funds from the contracts and describing herself as innocent.

She is also known for proposing to Tom Brady at Super Bowl Media Day in 2008 while covering the event. Wearing a wedding dress and veil, she asked the then-New England Patriots quarterback to marry her. Brady declined, saying he was a “one-woman man.”
