Inde Navarrette took aim at Shane Gillis during her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live, joking about women’s workout clothes while talking about training for an upcoming Marvel role.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m going to be in a Marvel movie,” Navarrette told the audience. She said she had been working out to get in shape, then added: “So, every morning I put on my little whore outfit and I hit the gym.” The joke drew applause.

The line echoed Gillis’ October 10 monologue, in which he made crude comments about women wearing revealing clothes at the gym. He joked that women “dress like whores now” and complained about being discouraged from looking at them, including when they were filming themselves for social media.

Gillis’ comments drew criticism from several public figures. Dan Levy said in an Instagram video that women wearing short shorts at the gym were not “whores,” and described men who called them that as misogynists. Former SNL cast members Ego Nwodim and Cecily Strong also criticized the bit.

Navarrette’s monologue also played on the contrast between her and Nikki, her character in Obsession. She said she was nothing like Nikki and described her relationship with boyfriend Nick Aiello as laid-back. The show then cut to Aiello in the audience, where he appeared tied up and gagged.

Navarrette is set to play Rogue in an upcoming X-Men movie. Her Halloween episode of SNL featured Gracie Abrams as the musical guest. A representative for Gillis did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
