Hoda Kotb says parenting with her former fiancé, Joel Schiffman, remains a positive part of family life. The pair, who ended their engagement in 2022, continue to spend time together with their daughters, Haley, 9, and Hope, 7.
Their shared family moments have included the girls’ first day of school, Christmas morning and regular dinners. On Halloween, Kotb and Schiffman also wore matching deviled egg costumes, laughing together as they celebrated with their children.
Kotb has spoken warmly about Schiffman, describing him as one of the best people she knows. On The Jamie Kern Lima Show in 2024, she said that two people can care deeply for each other and still find that the relationship is not right for them.
In a 2025 appearance on Today, Kotb said she had come to understand that she could love Schiffman while also recognizing the need to pursue other parts of her life. She has also credited him with helping her feel confident enough to adopt. “It’s because of Joel that I have Haley and Hope,” she told People in 2022, adding that she might have been too afraid to adopt on her own.
Kotb stepped away from her 16-year hosting role on Today and now leads her wellness brand and media company, Joy 101. She said in 2025 that her life had begun to feel calmer and more rhythmic, with backyard barbecues attended by Schiffman, neighbors and children.
