HGTV personality Tarek El Moussa has defended his decision to purchase a $150,000 BMW for his 16-year-old daughter, Taylor, stating that she fully deserved the gift. During an appearance on the 'Money Rehab' podcast on Wednesday, El Moussa highlighted Taylor's accomplishments as the justification for the expensive SUV. He noted that she maintains a 4.2 GPA and served as the MVP of her freshman soccer team.
El Moussa emphasized that his daughter did not simply receive the car without effort. "She's an absolutely fantastic kid and didn't just get it. She actually earned it," he said, adding that Taylor worked hard and never even asked for the vehicle. While acknowledging that Taylor would have been content with a used Honda, El Moussa explained that the BMW was primarily chosen for his peace of mind regarding her safety. He described the car as being built like a tank, ensuring she is in a safe vehicle that she loves.
Addressing concerns about spoiling his child, El Moussa insisted that Taylor is not a "spoiled brat." He pointed out that he has been managing her financial future responsibly by investing in stocks and real estate throughout her life. The television host contrasted his own upbringing with his daughter's, noting that while he grew up without material possessions and remains obsessed with acquiring them, Taylor has always had things and therefore views objects differently.
This is not the first instance of El Moussa gifting a high-end vehicle. He recalled buying a white Ferrari for Heather Haack on their second date after she mentioned it was her dream car, noting that she moved in with him by their third date. The recent gift to Taylor was revealed in an Instagram video posted in August, where El Moussa and Haack surprised the teenager with the silver SUV. Taylor reacted with shock and tears, exclaiming, "Oh my God!" El Moussa captioned the post by expressing how well-deserved the car was.
El Moussa, 45, and Haack, 43, also share an 11-year-old son named Brayden. The couple was married for seven years before separating in 2016 but continued to co-host their HGTV series, "Flip or Flop," until it concluded in 2022 after ten seasons. Reflecting on their journey, Haack stated that neither she nor El Moussa came from money and that they worked very hard individually and together to achieve their current status.
