Hailey Bieber has spoken about experiencing premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after the birth of her son, Jack Blues. In a recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily, she said she struggled with the condition postpartum and noted that there is little public discussion or research around it.

PMDD can cause severe emotional, behavioral and physical symptoms in the week or two before menstruation, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. Those symptoms ease once a period begins.

Bieber said talking about her experience has helped her feel less alone, adding that sharing challenges can help people relate to one another. Motherhood has also deepened her interest in women’s health, she said, pointing to the many changes that can happen during pregnancy and childbirth.

Bieber gave birth to Jack, her first child with husband Justin Bieber, in August 2024. She has previously said she received a PMDD diagnosis about six months after his birth. Although she had experienced premenstrual syndrome before, she noticed a marked increase in intensity after giving birth, describing overwhelming thoughts and feelings in the days before her period on the “SHE MD” podcast in March.

She said her symptoms gradually improved over time. Bieber has also discussed other health concerns, including a 2022 hospitalization for a stroke and a subsequent procedure to close a patent foramen ovale, a hole in her heart that she said she was born with.
