Laura Caron, a 36-year-old former fifth-grade teacher in New Jersey, has pleaded guilty to a charge related to allegations that she sexually abused a student and had a child with him.
Caron was charged in January 2025. Prosecutors alleged that the abuse began when the victim was 11 and continued for four years. According to a probable cause affidavit cited by PEOPLE, Caron became pregnant with and gave birth to the student’s child. She was 27 when the alleged pregnancy occurred, while the boy was 13.
Caron pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child with sexual conduct. Under the plea agreement, she will surrender her teaching license and is expected to receive a five-year sentence. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for January.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Caron will be evaluated at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel before serving her state prison sentence. The assessment will determine whether she is classified as repetitive or compulsive, a finding that could affect her sentence.
After completing her sentence, Caron will remain under parole supervision for life and will be required to register as a sex offender.
