Chris Rock has reflected on how his behavior affected his marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock, saying that porn use and infidelity contributed to a difficult period in their relationship. The couple married in 1996 and divorced in 2016.

“I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn,” Rock told GQ in an interview published Nov. 3. He added that he has not watched porn for five or six years.

Rock previously discussed the end of the marriage in his 2018 Netflix comedy special, “Tambourine,” where he also admitted to cheating. He described those experiences as painful lessons rather than something he was proud of.

The comedian said he later turned to therapy to address different parts of his life, including his relationships. Recalling the process, he said he went into therapy crying and questioning what was happening in his personal life.

Rock and Compton-Rock have two daughters, Lola and Zahra. In the GQ interview, he also spoke about looking back on the marriage and considering how he could have loved his wife better.
