Chris Rock has reflected on his marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock, which ended in 2016, saying he was not a good husband and used to watch a lot of pornography. In an interview for GQ’s Men of the Year issue, he said he had stopped watching it five or six years ago.

Rock said he was not proud of that period in his life, but described it as something he had to go through. He compared his personal growth to a Marvel hero becoming less selfish and learning to embrace their true self.

The comedian also discussed being diagnosed with a nonverbal learning disorder. He said the diagnosis led him to reconsider how insensitive some of his past behavior had been. Rock added that he used to attribute difficulties connecting with people to his celebrity, while believing he was unusually distinctive.
