CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel has died at the age of 30 after a collision during the team’s match against FC Andorra on November 2. The Spanish club announced his death on November 3, expressing its condolences to his family, friends and the Tenerife community.
The incident took place in the final seconds of the match, near the halfway line, as de Miguel pursued the ball and collided with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono. Owono, who had moved away from his goal to clear the ball, struck de Miguel in the chest with his knee. The goalkeeper was shown a red card and sent off.
De Miguel fell to the ground clutching his chest and then remained motionless as medical staff treated him on the pitch. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The club said de Miguel’s family appreciated the support they had received and asked for privacy. FC Andorra also issued a message of condolence to the striker’s family, teammates and CD Tenerife.
Local Spanish media reported that the National Police had opened an investigation. The High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands told El País that this is standard procedure in deaths that are not from natural causes.
